As a charity that is BIG on education, over the years The Jarrett Foundation has shipped thousands of brand new or nearly new items and furniture to Jamaica. These include:
· Desks and chairs for school
· Dinner tables
· Teaching resources
· Pens and pencils
· Text books
· Exercise books
· Desks and chairs for Principals of schools
· Computers and laptops
· Sports equipment
· Sports clothing
· Equipment for a disabled school
· Equipment for an abandoned baby home
· And so much more……..
On one of our visits to Jamaica, a Principal from one of the schools pleaded with us for one of the chairs for herself. We informed her that these were children’s chairs and not adult chairs. She said she didn’t mind as it was much better than the chair that she had.
She told us that she had a chair which had 3 legs and if she did not balance it properly against the wall, she would fall over.
As all aspects of education is important to us, we pledged that day that our small charity would bring 60 tables and 60 chairs to 60 Principals.
On returning to the UK we were contacted by the BBC and they asked if we wanted some furniture that they were disposing of. We collected and shipped the furniture to Jamaica and distributed them to 60 schools as promised.
